Getting The Right Hair Color |

Trying
to decide on the best hair color can be a difficult decision, but
with a little bit of planning and looking around you can easily find
a color that is just right for you. Understanding what you want your
color to express is important, as is understanding your hair type. If
you are planning to use a stylist, spend some time considering the
following points before setting the appointment.
One
of the first considerations is how much of your hair do you want to
color, and do you want to just use one color or several?
Monochromatic color means that one color is used over your entire
head, whereas multi-colored or toned includes highlights and
lowlights. The highlights are used to bring out the lighter colors in
the hair, whereas the lowlights are used to give depth to your hair
and are slightly darker than your natural color or the color you are
going to. The benefit to multi-tonal colored hair is that it gives a
more natural presentation as well as helps to minimize the appearance
of roots as the color grows out.
Most
people choose a hair color that matches their skin tone and eye
color. While some people like to be very conservative and just change
their hair slightly, others like to go very expressive and include
blues, pinks and purples into their hair. If you choose a color or
accent that has red or copper the result can be very stunning, but
you should also be aware that these colors tend to fade or change
sooner than other colors, so may need more frequent touch-ups. For
people that have fair to pink skin, the ash, honey and blonde or
neutral colors are the most complimentary. Gold tone skin looks
striking with deep reds and auburns, but avoid colors like orange,
bright gold or yellow, as this tends to make the skin look yellow.
Dark skin is enhanced with dark browns and reds with lowlights of an
even darker tone. As a general rule of thumb go lighter with colors
as you age, that way the blending of the gray hairs will be easier
plus any stray gray hairs will be less noticeable.
Semi-permanent
colors and color rinses are a great way to experiment with different
colors at home. They are not the old, chemical smelling treatments
anymore, and are easy to apply at home. The process involves an
application of the color, wait time, and a rinse, shampoo and
conditioner. The beauty of these products is that they only last a
short while in the hair, and allow you to try several colors to
decide what is best for you.
After
you have decided on the color or tones that you wish to use, you then
have to consider if you want to do it yourself or go to a stylist.
The benefit of doing it yourself is that you can fit it into your
busy schedule. The benefit of going to a salon is that the stylist
can make suggestions and even update your style at the same time.
Consider the final result, and what you are trying to accomplish when
choosing a color. Match your skin tone with your hair to enhance your
hair and face. A wild, bright color is very eye catching and unique,
where a more subdued color may be more appropriate in a professional
setting.
